I would love to cover the women. Doing radio, I just don't have time between broadcasts to talk to players and Coach Carey. I figure once the playoffs begin and the men are out, I'll be able to cover the women. When they're on they're really good, and I'm looking forward to them playing four good quarters. They can beat Gannon and Seton Hill, if they make their layups, although it will be tougher on the road. I would love to see the conference tournament at the KCAC. Thanks for reading. Please let me know what you think when I start covering the women. Go Hawks.
I watched the video feed of the game last night. It was excellent as WKBN-TV out of Youngstown televised both the Men's and Women's games. With their slow starts this season, I was very please with how the Men played the first half.. It was hard to watch them come up short in the second half. The players are all talented but I keep waiting to see signs that they become a team and play a full game against good to great competition. I also know that I am a bit spoiled by the good to great teams that we have had for the past 15+ years. This team has the most losses since Joe Lombardi's second year with IUP in 2007-2008 when that team had 15 losses.
I thought they would come out and have a good second half, like they have most of the season, but the other team has something to do with that, too. Their outside shooting just lets them down too much. Christian, Ky and Tyler just struggle from 3, even though they get plenty of good looks. They need to shoot closer to 38-39 percent on the year rather than closer to 30. That's true for their overall shooting, too, because they need to be up around 48 percent. The game is a lot easier and a lot more fun when you make shots. Coach always talks about continuing to work and the stone will crack. I'm still waiting for that from everyone. We are spoiled. Last year's 17-11 finish was hard to take, and this team is going to finish around .500 unless they find some magic in February. Right now it's like they're riding along a plateau, and most things are the same from one game to the next. I think things are tougher now, too, because other teams are getting better coaching from guys who put in the work and have their teams prepared. That wasn't always the case at most places in the West. I keep thinking about next year, when things should be better if everyone stays, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that.
Tony, I really enjoy your your observations, but I'd love to see you cover the women's team as well as the men's. Can that happen?
