IUP basketball home openers postponed
Friday's games moved to Sunday; Saturday's games remain as schedule
Friday’s IUP basketball home games against Shippensburg were postposed and moved to Sunday due to travel issues encountered by the visiting team.
Shippensburg’s team was stranded on its bus due to snow that fell on western Pennsylvania throughout the day. All roads leading to Indiana from the east and south were reportedly shut down at some point in the afternoon due to the inclement weather.
Saturday’s games against Lock Haven remain as scheduled. The women’s game tips off at 1 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 3.
Lock Haven is coming off Saturday’s 99-66 loss at Pitt-Johnstown that dropped the Bald Eagles to 2-4.
Pitt Johnstown (3-3) led by as many as 20 points in the first half, held a 12-point lead at halftime and steadily stretched the margin to its final spread of 33 points throughout the second half.
Lock Haven shot under 40 percent for the most of the game and finished at 41.7. Eli Washington was the lone Lock Haven player to reach double figures with 19 points.
Jay Rose scored 20 points, all in the first half, and was one of four Pitt-Johnstown players in double figures. The Mountain Cats shot 58.5 percent overall and made 10 3-point field goals on 14 attempts.
Friday’s other scores in the PSAC were Gannon 95, Bloomsburg 70; California 85, Millersville 76; Edinboro 93, Kutztown 58; West Chester 81, Slippery Rock 64; Shepherd 79, Seton Hill 64; and Clarion 90, Mansfield 83.
The Shippensburg games are set for 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday. Shippensburg (2-3) plays at Seton Hill (5-1) on Saturday.
Saturday’s other PSAC games are Mansfield (1-4) at Pitt-Johnstown (3-3), East Stroudsburg (3-1) at Gannon (5-2), Millersville (4-2) at Slippery Rock (2-3), Bloomsburg (1-5) at Clarion (5-1), West Chester (3-2) at Edinboro (4-2) and Shepherd (3-2) at California (6-0). Kutztown (1-4) has a bye.
